Run or Walk for Southlake, presented by Nature's Emporium

Everybody was running or walking at their own pace at the Aurora Community Centre to take part in one of the biggest annual fundraisers of the year. The Run or Walk for Southlake celebrated 13 successful years with an overwhelming number of partcipants ready to step forward to support Southlake Regional Health Centre. This event grew out of the Hartwell Challenge, a run started in 2002 in memory of Bob Hartwell. Bob was a well-known businessman, civic leader, and most notably, an avid runner who ran the Boston Marathon several times. Tragically, in 2001, in his 54th year, Bob died while running in the Toronto Marathon. For eight years, a dedicated group of friends and community members graciously gave of their time to help coordinate the Hartwell Challenge in celebration of Bob's life. In 2010, the run became one of Southlake's important fundraising events. Although the title of this event has changed, it continues to be a special celebration of Bob's life and his deep commitment to the community. Presented by Nature's Emporium, the runners could choose the 10K, 5K, 2.5K or the Kids Mini Mile and spent it while enjoying the beautiful Spring morning. At the commencement of the event, it was announced that over $120,000 of proceeds had been raised (and counting) and over 1,675 participants, hundreds of spectators and 120 volunteers! Special thanks to all those that participated in what was the most successful Run or Walk for Southlake events yet! For more information visit www.runforsouthlake.ca
