Returns for Leukemia at The Beer Store
What better way to help the environment and raise money for a fabulous cause then donating your empty beer, wine and spirit containers at the local Beer Store. 100% of the communities deposit refund was donated to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC). Last year, UFCW Local 12R24 and The Beer Store raised over $830,000 to support the LLSC in its fight against leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. The Beer Store, green since 1927, is dedicated to the environment. Due to their hard work, 98% of refillable bottles are returned for reuse each year. In 2007/2008, over 2 billion bottles and cans were returned for recycling. This tremendous effort prevents unnecessary waste going into our landfills. During the bottle drive weekend, people were able to contribute to this amazing initiative and help raise funds for blood cancer research and patient support.
