Taste of our Town: Crabby Joe’s
Even though their motto is “Good Food...Good Fun...Bad Temper!” there was nothing bad about my experience at Crabby Joe’s last month! I had been to Joe’s a few times in the past year or so since they have opened but my family had not so I thought I would take them to experience what this great restaurant has to offer.
The four of us walked in to the one year + Crabby Joe’s restaurant and were very impressed with the warm ambiance of this sports themed spot. Although it is not your typical sports bar – there is a very large bar for all of the sports enthusiasts but there is also a large dining area – very sleek and modern with natural elements of dark woods and stone with a giant fireplace in the middle. This is the perfect place for an after work cocktail for the ladies and gents, a fantastic place to bring your family and a great atmosphere for a date.
Crabby Joe’s is a chain of 30 restaurants throughout Canada and the Aurora location is the first restaurant for the Rasmussen family, who have been in the industry for many years and are thrilled with how Crabby Joe’s is doing in Aurora. The Rasmussen family has been supporting SNAP since Day 1 and I really appreciate it.
Their menu offers a vast array of choices from appetizers like the Buffalo Chicken Quesadilla, Spinach & Artichoke Dip, Garlic Skillet Bread (very low cal!) and Loaded Cheese Fries. There are also fresh salads like Apple Pecan and the Tuscan Salad, served with a warm onion pepper bun. The Sandwiches and Wraps are endless with choices like the Rustic Pulled Pork Sandwich, the Grilled Chicken Caesar Wrap and the Sirloin Steak Sandwich – just to name a few! You can’t forget about the Pastas; the Smokey Mountain Chicken Penne, Chicken Spinoccoli and the Baked Four Cheese Penne. Are we hungry yet? Joe’s also offers Classics like the new menu item, Grilled Lemon Peppers Salmon, their famous Haddock Fish & Chips and Pan-Fried Pickerel. For those hungry men out there (or women for that matter!), Joe’s has Steaks, Burgers and Fajitas to die for. All of Joe’s steaks are seasoned with their Signature Steak Spice and grilled just the way you like it. The Fajitas (my favourite) come with Steak or Chicken and is seasoned, charbroiled and served with a sizzlin’ skillet of bell peppers and sweet onions.
With all of the delicious food it was hard to decide but we opted to start with the Loaded Chesse Fries – Joe’s fries topped with melted mixed cheeses, bacon, green onions, ranch dressing and sour cream and the Spinach and Artichoke Sip – Nana Joe’s creamy dip concocted with spinach, cream cheese, artichokes and garlic and topped with melted mixed cheese and is served with pita wedges. Although my brother called “dibs” on the Loaded Cheese Fries, he was nice enough to let me try a few and they were delicious. The dip was very different than other Spinach & Artichoke dip and I would definitely have it again.
Off to the main course! My mom and I decided on the Steak and Chicken Fajitas. They are usually $15.99 but on Thursdays, they are $10.99 – you really can’t beat it and they were out of this world. The servings were huge and we both had enough to take home for lunch the next day. My brother and dad decided on the Goat Cheese and Peppercorn Burger – Joe’s Prime Rib Burger crusted with black peppercorns and topped with roasted red peppers, caramelized onions and goat cheese. Now our family loves burgers – and both said they are coming back to try the Outlaw Burger – this is on Joe’s Texas Grill Summer Menu and it is TWO of their signature prime rib patties basted with whiskey BBQ sauce and topped with cheddar cheese, bacon, jalapenos, caramelized onions and all the trimmings’. What can I say? Men and their meat!
At this point, I’m not really sure how we ate all of this food but somehow we did and asked to see a dessert menu. We split The Crabby Apple (my dad’s favourite) – which is a cobbler in the truest sense of tradition; fresh cut apples in a deep dish and completed with a perfect blend of sweet roasted almond topping and ice cream.
Crabby Joe’s has specials every night of the week from $0.39 cent Wing nights on Tuesday, to $15 full rack of Ribs on Thursdays and don’t forget about the ½ price appetizers after 9pm and that kids eat free on Sundays.
Thank you to the Crabby Joe’s Team – our server, Chelsea was outstanding and the Manager, Courtney was friendly, personable and made sure our experience at Crabby Joe’s was a great one. Whenever I come in to the restaurant, I feel like family and that says a lot. You are all fantasic and thanks again for everything.
